On the beach sat a golurk with his body covered in sand, making sand castles. Sam was perched on his shoulder, watching the water.

When his name is called, Sam turns to look. His golurk puts the finishing makeshift 'flag' on the top and its features twist into something a little like a smile. Happiness. The lights flicker and fade different velocities to show the emotion.

"Hey Vic."

As Sam speaks, golurk twists its upper body to look. Curious dimming, then brightening as it eyes Vic. Not hard to miss that hair.

Sliding off the golurk, he heads over toward Vic. He's sporting his Alolan patterned shirt and some ghost-type tribute shorts. Hoenn special, with shuppets and misdreavuses all over. He eyes the frisbee, takes a moment to think about the challenge, and then looks over at his golurk who got up from his castle. The destroyed castle crumbles and the golurk stares in defeat at the masterpiece crumbling.

Then, it turns its attention to Sam and the dog, getting closer and observing the three.

"Sure, we're game."

When watching the castle crumble back to mere sand, Vic felt compelled to hug the poor Golurk. He had been working so hard! He was so proud of his masterpiece! Now, it was gone, only to remain alive in the memory of those who had been lucky enough to see it in all of its glory. It was truly a sad moment... but, you know what’s the best way to fix these kinds of moments?

Sweet! I’ll throw and whichever pokémon catches it first wins, yeah? Then you can throw if you want!” It was a simple enough explanation, and with this said and done, the man of cotton candy-coloured hair readied himself to throw the disc in the air – his Arcanine wagging its fluffy tail excitedly as it waited to attack.

Vic changed his stance, doing a couple of small tentative swings before properly releasing the frisbee. And, as he did, came the words: ”By the way… ANYTHING GOES!”

On cue, his Arcanine used AGILITY to boost its speed, only a cloud of sand being left where the pokémon had just been. Vic coughed, trying not to inhale any of it.

The fact that Vic had hugged the golurk made Sam wonder why. Because of the sand castle? But the golurk hadn't been hurt...oh, his disappointment. He could just build another sand castle later. That, and as the frisbee was teased the golurk was already preparing its rockets.

The hum started and Sam watched as the frisbee flew off. He also noticed that the frisbee wasn't a boomerang and would need somebody to bring it back each time. Luckily, it seemed that arcanine, though not catching it, would bring it back.

Sam eyed his golurk and took the frisbee. He shifted his feet and recalled a stance he'd learned on the internet. A deep breath, then he was twisting his body.

"Go long, golurk."

With that, he whipped the frisbee, the golurk taking off after it, but avoided blasting them with sand.

You’d think that with all the practice he got, Arcanine would be better at this whole frisbee business. He wasn’t. It was a very small target for a very big pokémon, after all, and sometimes he just got way too excited and completely missed the target. This time, for example, he forgot how fast he could actually be and ran way past the point where the frisbee had landed, having to turn back when realizing his mistake and retrieve it before bringing it back happily.

”Aw, that’s okay, bud! You’ll do better next time!” Vic encouraged him with a few pets, passing the frisbee to Sam so the man could throw it at his Golurk.

”Oh! Nice throw! You sure you don’t do this kind of thing often?” he laughed, an image appearing in his mind of Sam spending his afternoons at Mt. Pyre throwing little twigs for his pokémon to catch. Adorable!

”Okay, here we go again! Try not to go so fast this time, Nougat” The canine barked in acknowledgement, and the frisbee was thrown in the air. He went after it, as one would expect, but he may or may have not thrown a last minute EXTREME SPEED on the way there out of sheer excitement...

Seeing the arcanine succeed in catching the frisbee had Sam narrowing his eyes and calculating exactly how to use his golurk's moves to his advantage. Then, it clicked, and he smirked, looking to his golurk.

"Stay airborne. When I throw it, use one of your punches to gain velocity and catch it."

A few stiff moments and the golurk did as it was asked. It brought in certain limbs and then sent itself into the air. As Sam threw the frisbee, he used a FOCUS PUNCH to lock on and go after the frisbee. If it worked, he caught the frisbee. If it didn't, he'd probably damage a building.

”Oh! That was so cool! Vic exclaimed when seeing the sheer power of its punch propel the Golurk.

But, see, friendly as he may have been, Nougat was also an incredibly competitive pokémon, and when seeing the Golurk get praise and catch his favourite toy not once but twice, he glared at it with the full force of his intimidate ability. Not like it would do much though, but it happened all the same, even if the Arcanine was quickly distracted the moment Vic reached for the frisbee once again. He barked happily, and he also wagged his tail.

”How about we try something like that, huh? Flare Blitz.” The moment the command came, the Arcanine did as asked; his striped coat being covered in the light of flame the very second before he charged. It was like shooting a flare gun, a flame dashing through the sand and heading directly for the frisbee.

When the frisbee was thrown, Sam watched as it plummeted straight for the sand. He put a hand over his eyes to block the sun, then glanced at Vic.

"..." instead of making any remarks, he just picked the frisbee up and nodded toward his golurk.

"Phantom Force."

It was a decent way to practice moves, anyway. So he threw the disc and golurk's body became so dark it absorbed most of the light around it, taking off with great exertion toward the direction of the

Well… That was anticlimactic, huh? The Arcanine had darted off, but the frisbee was nowhere to be found, leaving Nougat to whine and whimper in confusion as he looked around – as if he were a small pup.

”Aw, sorry, buddy! That one’s on me!” Vic lightly laughed, even if he really did feel bad, his attention then returning to Sam and his Golurk just as the man threw the frisbee one more time. The way the pokémon’s body was suddenly engulfed by darkness was impressive, but alas, the green disc fell to the sand.

Good thing Nougat was always happy to bring it back!

Vic prepared a throw, and this time, the Arcanine kept its eyes glued to the disc, once again using AGILITY to boost his speed.

The golurk had indeed missed, having used the force of shadows to move a little too fast.

"You've got to gauge the distance and use only enough velocity to correctly move the space needed."

Sam gave a small pep-talk to his golurk as the arcanine used agility and got the frisbee.

"See? He was able to get just enough speed to meet the disk."

Looking to golurk, he took the frisbee when it was given. "Let's try again, huh? this time, mega punch."

As the frisbee was tossed, golurk shot its arm forward and took off toward the frisbee, doing its best to try and meet the frisbee as its trainer had suggested.

Poor Golurk was having a tough time, and Vic felt kind of bad for the little (or rather GIANT) guy.

”Accuracy’s important, yeah, but you also gotta have fun with it! If you stress out too much about doing it right, you may end up messing up… You’ll get the hang of it. I believe in you, bud!” The pinkette offered his own two cents with a grin, following these words by giving a thumbs up to the Golurk – reassuringly, or he at least hoped it would be.

He went on to lovingly scratch behind the Arcanine’s ears, pausing the frisbee showdown for a second until a new idea came to mind, distracting him from the ‘R&R’. ”Oh! Speaking of games… Wanna try Play Rough?”

The Arcanine barked, preparing himself to pounce at the frisbee, ready to play and thrash it around.

Sam wasn't irritated but he could see the golurk feeling a bit down, though Vic's words did help to encourage the golurk. So by the time Sam was readying himself for another throw, golurk was already powering up a SHADOW PUNCH. The fist was swelling and oozing shadows, licking and falling to the sand before disappearing in the sun.

"That's more like it."

A bit more confident, if only in the fact that golurk would be having fun, Sam threw the frisbee once again.

They really weren’t making much progress here, huh? Either Vic and Sam had suddenly become really good at throwing that frisbee, or for some reason their pokémon were having a very hard time with using their moves to make it in time for the catch.

The poor fire pup was trying so hard. Sam didn't feel much pity though, because he's just not that guy. Instead, he was trying to figure out how to properly throw the frisbee.

"I think I'm really bad at throwing them. He's matching the right speeds--"

With a pause, he stuck his finger out and felt the air, then took the frisbee back in hand.

"Alright, again."

This time, golurk used IRON DEFENSE, urging Sam to just chuck it at him. With a small smirk, Sam did just that. Threw it as hard as he could right at his golurk.
